Phase Assessment Requirements
Phase 1 Assessment: Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP)
- Overall GPA of 2.5 or better
- Grade of C+ or better in EDUC 200
- Submit TEP Application
- Passing scores on all three sections of the PRAXIS I tests
- Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) in mathematics, reading, and writing
- Minimum scores on PPST of: Math - 175 Reading - 176 Writing - 172
- ACT composite - 24
- SAT composite - 1100
- Philosophy of Teaching statement
- Completion of introductory field experience required by the program with satisfactory evaluation by the mentoring teacher and the college instructor for EDUC 200 and EDUC 220
- Minimum of C in all courses required by the major, minor and licensing areas
- An interview with two members of the Teacher Education Committee (TEC) with passing rating
- Acceptance into the TEP is necessary for enrollment in 300 and 400 level Education courses
Phase 2 Assessment: Required for Student Teaching
- Complete 300 and 400 level coursework with "C" or better
- Overall GPA of 2.5 or better
- Sample of reflective writing - Self-analysis of teaching strengths and weaknesses
- Interview with TEC and education professionals with passing rating
- Portfolio Review
Phase 3 Assessment: Required for Graduation
- Completed coursework of a minimum of 124 credit hours
- Overall GPA of 2.5 or better
- Completed 12 credit hours of Student Teaching Experience with a grade of 2.5 or better
- Required Praxis 2 exams. Passing scores set by Indiana Department of Education are:
- 10011 Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment - 165
- 20300 Reading Specialist - 370
- Recommendation of Director of Student Teaching
- Portfolio Review
- International Experience
