Loan Applications

Holy Cross College participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program which was enacted by Congress earlier this year as a part of Healthcare Reform legislation.  More information about the Federal Direct Lending Program can be found at www.direct.ed.gov

Stafford Student Loan Application Process

STEP ONE - Students who have been offered a Federal Direct Stafford Student Loan (subsidized and/or unsubsidized) must complete a Student Loan Request form and submit it to the Office of Financial Aid.  This gives the OFA permission to originate and certify your loan request.

STEP TWO -  Students who are borrowing Federal Stafford Student Loans for the first time must complete an Entrance Counseling Session online at www.studentloans.gov.  The Entrance Counseling Session will take about 20 to 30 minutes to complete.   You will need your Federal Student PIN number (same PIN you used to sign your FAFSA)

STEP THREE - The final step is to e-sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN).  This is done on the same Web site at www.studentloans.gov which will allow your loans to be disbursed to your student account in August (Fall semester) and January (Spring semester).

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Please be advised that your Stafford Loan(s) will not be disbursed to your student account unless you complete all three steps outlined above.

Parent PLUS Loan Application Process

STEP ONE - Parents who wish to apply for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan must complete a PLUS Loan Request form and submit it to the Office of Financial Aid.  This gives the OFA permission to originate and certify your PLUS loan request.  The maximum loan amount is the Cost of Attendance less the total financial aid your son or daughter receives for 2012-2013.   If you are unsure of an appropriate amount to request, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.

STEP TWO - After submitting the PLUS Loan request, you must e-sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.student loans.gov.  Your parent PIN number will be needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  As with Stafford Student Loans, a Parent PLUS Loan will not be disbursed to your son or daughter's student account unless a parent successfully completes both steps outlined above.

Private/Alternative Loans

Perkins Loan Holders

If a Perkins Loan was included in your financial award letter, please download and print the Federal Perkins Promissory Note only if you are awarded this loan.  The completion of this Perkins Promissory Note will confirm that you are both requesting, accepting the loan and signing the master promissory note for it. Upon completion of the promissory note, please mail the original (keep a copy for yourself) to the attention of the Office of Financial Aid, Holy Cross College, PO Box 308, Notre Dame, IN 46556-0308.

Perkins Loan Requirements

  • Perkins Loans are separate from Stafford or PLUS loans. If you are awarded a Perkins Loan, you are obligated to repay the loan directly to the ACS service provider. Once you accept a Perkins Loan and receive a disbursement on your account, you can access your loan at the ACS Web site at www.acs-education.com or you can call 1-800-826-4470.
  • You are required to complete Perkins Loan Entrance Counseling online. You are also required to present to the Office of Financial Aid verification and confirmation that you have completed this requirement.
  • When you graduate, leave school for any reason or drop below six credit hours, you are required to complete Perkins Loan Exit Counseling online. As with Entrance Counseling, you are required to present to the Office of Financial Aid verification and confirmation that you have completed this requirement.

Work Study Forms

The Work Study Application is available on Moodle for all currently enrolled students.

These forms are available to students interested in on-campus employment. Please note that students awarded Work Study on their award letter will be given priority consideration for most on-campus positions.
